Every month the founders’ fireside will partner with local businesses and stakeholders exploring innovative topics. In June, Robert Gordon University (RGU) will be hosting a session on Gamification Skills. Whether you’re a seasoned developer, entrepreneur or simply curious about the power of game mechanics in non-gaming contents, this event is tailored for you.

What will I learn?

Insights from experts: Hear from experts across the range of gaming technologies used in RGU School of Computing’s Games Design and Computing & Creative Design courses discuss these topics and how they have used them in their own work.

  • Network opportunities: Connect with like-minded professionals, potential collaborators and industry influences in a supportive environment.Game Engines, Game Design and Gamification are terms that you may not traditionally associate with businesses outside the computer games industry. However all of these tools and techniques have the potential to be used across multiple sectors in some amazing ways. In this session you can expect:

Who will be speaking?

Jay Munro - Jay is an experienced academic who teaches on and leads multiple courses in the School of Computing, including Computing and Creative Design, Digital Media, and Games Design. Her expertise originates from the creative arts and animation, but expand into games and immersive experiences, with her having spent several years in the games industry developing titles for iOS and Android. Jay is extremely passionate about games and especially, the way game behaviours might be applied in real world scenarios to support learning.

Zhaklina Valcheva - Zhaklina is a creative professional that coordinates and demonstrates on multiple modules within the School of Computing, RGU. Her expertise originate in digital graphics and animation but expand into immersive experiences and digital marketing. Prior to joining the School of Computing, she spent a few years in the marketing industry developing digital materials for advertising purposes and marketing strategies that apply gamification concepts to non-gaming content.

Verda Munir - Verda is a Lecturer in Games Design and development at the School of Computing, RGU. She has a PhD in Games, with a background in Software Engineering and Games Development. Her research includes eliminating digital divide through Gamification, Immersive tech with a bias toward AR for it being cost effective and using games technology for Education and Historic Preservation. Verda is a 3D scanning enthusiast where she enjoys bringing real object, structures and humans in to 3D visualisations. She is a mum of beautiful twin girls, and loves to cook and hike.

Jamie McDonald - Jamie is a creative technologist skilled in filmmaking, 3D animation, and game engine development for crafting engaging VR simulations and interactive experiences. After a decade leading a successful Aberdeen-based digital media business, he now lectures in Creative Computing at RGU and co-founded a transatlantic film studio with a sister C.I.C. focused on industry mentorship to develop the region's creative sector.
